Kids songs? Really?
Well yes. The key to starting understanding dutch by listening for me was to find a thing I understand instantly. Then my confidence grew and I started hearing more and more. This happened thanks to my little 3-year-old at home. She was playing some dutch songs on her tablet and the one I am sharing today caught my attention. A fair warning though, it is catchy. You might sing it in your head all day long. That is it, you have been warned.

The goal here is to get out of the panic that you cannot understand anything you hear in Dutch. As long as you think like that you are in trouble. Start simple, keep it simple, and do not panic. When you are over 30 not understanding what you hear is frustrating. I felt hopeless for a couple of months. Then I joined my little one as she was learning the language herself in the peuteropvang (preschool) through songs and simple stories.
