Guess what, reading dutch kids’ books is still fun and is not scary at all. Just start with a good dictionary handy. I did that and I can now proudly say I have read two dutch children’s books by myself in two days. Reading is my best exercise of all since I am a bit of a bookworm. So expect a lot of book recommendations from me, now that I am brave enough to start reading not only short texts. I believe that reading is the shortcut to building a great vocabulary and learning correct spelling at the same time.

This is my second one. The first one I read is an older one out of print that I can not recommend but it was called Droopie de drak. Perhaps you can find it on Marktplaats.
Now about Foeksia. This is fun series of stories about a witch who hatches from an egg a magician finds. here is also a movie you can watch on Netflix. My little one is crazy about the mini witch and we watch it regularly. This book is about the little witch being late for school and getting a punishment to look for ingredients for a witch’s soup in the woods.
The best part is a neighbor gave us a box of old kids’ books and in there were two Foeksia books. So I decided to start with them. They seemed easy enough. It took me not too long – about an hour to go through this one with all the words I had to look up.
In this Quizlet board are all the words I did not know. Put them there just to be able to review them in a day or two.
