What is it?

In Dutch, we use the present simple tense (de onvoltooid tegenwoordige tijd) to talk about things we do regularly, things that are always true, and simple actions happening now.

  • Habits: What you do every day or week

  • Facts: Things that are always true

  • Right Now: Actions happening at this moment

Why is it important?

The present simple tense is super important for speaking and understanding Dutch! It’s like the foundation of the language. You’ll use it every day to talk about your routines, share facts, and describe what’s happening right now. Once you learn the present simple, you’ll be able to have basic conversations and understand a lot more of what you hear and read in Dutch.
