The purpose of this category post is to introduce you to the ordinary and everyday situations that happen to me and give you the vocabulary to handle them if they happen to you too. It is like a language learning diary. I have been thinking about how to incorporate a more practical way of learning Dutch. Going the traditional way takes so long and I want to be confident in daily situations. This is how Daily Dutch was born.Hope you enjoy it and learn from it.
The first situation is something that happened to me in the supermarket. I was supposed to leave my basket before the cash register but I kept it with me. I am pretty slow when packing my produce and products into bags. What happens is I always annoy the line behind me. So I prefer putting everything back in the basket and then dealing with the bags. The cashier told me to leave it back but I had to explain why I do not want to do it. I couldn’t do it in dutch. I just mumbled “Ik ben langzam paking” and moved on. Needless to say, it was not what I should have done. To learn from this daily dutch failure I imagined what i could have said and created the situation in the video.
